Academic Clinical Lecturer in Occupational and Environmental Medicine, at the Dept. of Respiratory

Dr Sara De Matteis is an Occupational Health Physician and Epidemiologist with expertise in
occupational respiratory diseases, in particular asbestos-related lung cancer and mesothelioma. Dr
De Matteis research interest are, among others, to study gene-environment interactions in
respiratory diseases aetiology, and to develop new efficient standard methods to improve
estimation of work-related disease burden in epidemiological studies.

Dr De Matteis is a member of several national and international scientific committees. She is an
independent scientific member of the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council (IIAC) for the Department
for Work and Pensions in the UK.  Dr De Matteis is also a member of the European Respiratory
Society's (ERS) Environment and Health Committee, and of the Forum of International Respiratory
Societies (FIRS) Environmental and Occupational Health Committee.

Dr De Matteis is also registered with the UK General Medical Council (GMC) and practices in the
Occupational Lung Clinic at the Royal Brompton Hospital, where she holds an honorary contract. She
is as well as a member of the UK Group of Occupational Respiratory Disease Specialists.
